Salmonella positive controls: Lactalis, a tradition of opacity

The company Lactalis reportedly spotted the presence of Salmonella in its plant in August through its internal controls. Checks she had not revealed. Lactalis is the tradition of opaque milk!

Lactalis has known for months that there is contamination of its Salmon plant in Craon. The first salmonella infections were in fact observed last August. The information was revealed in Chained Duck on January 3rd.
The company Lactalis Nutrition Santé has spotted twice the presence of salmonella, in August and November. The bacteria were present "on cleaning equipment and on the tiles". Nothing has been said because it is not mandatory, legally, for this type of companies to communicate on internal controls.

Transparency questioned

Asked by Allodocteur.fr, the Lactalis communication department said that the authorities were informed about all these facts: "We are in highly controlled activities and in total transparency relationship".
Transparency that was questioned in December by a former milk producer for Lactalis. Asked by Europe 1, he thought that internal analyzes had been carried out regularly and that Lactalis had to know about the contamination. But the salmonella strains were not dangerous, he thought the management had "let go".

An opacity that is a tradition

The French group Lactalis has become the world leader in dairy products after a frenzy of acquisitions via a holding company domiciled in Belgium, in Ixelles. On the occasion of the crisis of the milk producers, Mediapart had recalled that the company is also characterized by a particularly opaque financial management.
Despite its turnover of 17 billion euros, Lactalis remains a family company, unlisted, property of the Besnier family through holding companies domiciled in Paris. On the other hand, Lactalis has the doctrine of not filing its annual accounts and prefers to pay the derisory fine.

A total of 35 infants were infected, 16 were hospitalized. All are healthy today. The Paris prosecutor's office opened an investigation. Complaints were filed for "unintentional injuries", "endangering the lives of others" and "deceit".
